Drumshee Timeline Worksheets
Suggestions for the use of worksheets with the Drumshee Timeline
Series
There is a set of six worksheets to go with each book.
Each set of six worksheets covers one historical period in the
history of Ireland.
The Drumshee series is aimed at the nine to thirteen age group. It
covers the following historical topics: Celts, Iron Age, Early
Christian, Medieval/Monastic, Elizabethan, 18th Century, Great Famine,
Early 20th Century: Titanic, War of Independence through to the present
day.
As all of the books are set in the same place, Drumshee, it forms a
very practical demonstration of the timeline concept.
It is probably best if the whole book is read before the worksheets
are done.
The ‘Read & Write’ ‘Draw’ and ‘Explore’ section of
each worksheet should be within the capabilities of each child in the
class; the ‘Fact File’ and ‘Imagine’ sections may be more
suitable to be used as extension material for the more able children.
It would be useful to have history reference books and an atlas at
hand while the children are working on these sheets.
Where time is limited it would work well to divide the class into six
groups and give each group one worksheet; the groups could present their
results to the rest of the class.
