The Badgers
Chapters 4 & 5

Facts

Badgers are friendly animals and often live in large mixed groups in huge underground burrows called sets.

When the badgers cubs are born, the badgers dig out
nurseries for them deep inside their sets. They keep those nurseries very clean by putting new bedding of ferns in every day and throwing the old bedding outside the set.

When the cubs are a bit older they 'toilet-train' them by digging small square holes well away from the set and teaching the cubs to use these.

Can a badger be a friend?

Badgers can live in large groups and be friendly to each other and protect each other.

If a person, who knows and understands badgers, can get a badger when it is very young, he can usually get that badger to be a pet in the house.

Phil Drabble, a man who is sometimes on TV, had a pet badger that used to come into his study every evening to see him.

A badger could be a friend to someone who understands them.
