Fact File

In June 1940 A fleet of 41 destroyers, together with sloops, minesweepers, transports, and patrol craft, and many small pleasure boats and yachts were sent over to rescue the British soldiers from Dunkirk. Almost miraculously, by June 4, 338,226 British, French, and Belgian soldiers had been evacuated to
England, at a cost of 6 destroyers sunk and 19 damaged, not to mention many other smaller vessels.

Trace a map of Europe showing France and Britain. Draw a line from Dunkirk to Folkestone. Now measure the line with your ruler. Place the ruler on the scale at the bottom of the map. This should give you the number of miles.
