Fact File
St Patrick was born in Britain, probably around Bristol. and was taken to Ireland as slave when he was a boy. Later on he returned to tell the Irish people about Christianity. This story tells how St Patrick baptised a king. It is true that he did baptise a king from what is now known as County Clare at that time and he also helped the king to go through the Brehon laws and select those that they could keep. Some laws the Christians did not like, but most remained in use for hundreds of years afterwards - even a thousand years in the far west of Ireland.
