Draw...!

Draw a picture of a boy or girl from the fifth century.

Fact File

Dress in the 5th century for a girl would have consisted of a linen tunic, leine, probably fairly long, and a cloak or bratt which was made from wool and would have reached to the girl's ankles. A girl would have worn her hair in plaits until she was of marriageable age.
A boy would have worn basically the same clothes, but his tunic would have reached only to his knees.
Both of them would have worn a pouch, instead of having pockets.

Explore...!

Try to get hold of some sheep's wool and dye or stain it in natural colours. Yellow can be made from nettles, saffron was made from the gold in the centre of crocus flowers. Blackberries will make purple.

Imagine......!

Imagine that you are a girl or boy of the fifth century. Write your story and include details of your clothes.

Invent an outfit for Nessa to wear at her wedding. Write a description of it.
