Fact File

Brehon law was the ancient system of laws in Ireland. The law schools were set up to teach those laws. Until the time of Christianity most of the laws had to passed on by oral means (learning them off by heart) as probably the only written language was Ogham. One law school., in the north of County Clare (near to the Aillwee Caves) survived until the 16th century. You can still see the remains. It was built inside a fort.

Explore...!

If you live near County Clare, go and see the law school of
Cahermacnaughtan. Some of the books written there four hundred years ago are now in the British Library in London.

Imagine......!

Imagine that you are Mahon. You have so much to learn, but none of it is written down. Imagine that you are asking your father to take you away from the school. Make up a story about what happens.

Imagine an adventure - perhaps another murder -at Drumshee law school. What happens?
