Fact File
The nineteen twenties were a time of great fashion changes. For women, skirts got shorter and straighter, instead of being ankle length. If you have read the Titanic you will see how ladies dressed until the twenties. For the poor, there was not much change. They still wore shawls and dressed in whatever they had. Clothes were seldom bought in shops, but were made by at home, or by a dressmaker.
Explore...!
Try to go to a museum that might have an exhibition of clothes through the centuries. Pick your favourite time. Visit Bunratty in County Clare and see the shops there and what they sold.

Imagine that you are Kitty over in America. You make a present of a dress for your cousin, Bridget. Write Kitty's letter telling all about the dress that she is going to send.
Imagine that you meet John Joe and you find that he always wears short trousers winter and summer. Write a description of for him of your clothes and where you wear different things - jeans, for instance.
