Fact File

The building of the Titanic began in Harland & Wollf shipyards in Belfast in the year 1908. It was completed in March 1912.
On the 10 April 1912 it reached Southampton where most of the passengers boarded. It then went on to Cherbourg in north-west France.
11 April the
Titanic arrived at Queenstown, County Cork.
On 14 April it collided with an iceberg and on 15 April it sank.

Think about why the officer held back the third class passengers with a gun and didn't allow them on the lifeboat. What was the reason for that. Choose one person in your class to act the part of the officer and ask him to explain..

Imagine that you were a third class passenger and you were trying to get through the locked gates to the upper deck where the lifeboats were stored. Write a description of your feelings.

Imagine someone hanging on to a deckchair in that sea filled with ice. Write a description of how he or she is feeling. Are they rescued, or do they die?
