According to the Romans the Celts were a very clean people and took frequent baths and washed their hair very often. We are not sure how the Celts washed themselves. One idea is that they bathed in wooden tubs, but in different parts of Ireland archaeologists have discovered scooped-out places in fields with large heaps of partially burnt stone nearby. These places are usually near a spring or a stream and may have been used for bathing.
Draw...!
Draw a picture of a Celtic bath.
Explore...!
Make a picture of an out-of-doors bathing place - perhaps the woman is heating the stones in the fire and the children are all splashing around in the little pool. Make a model of a tub with plasticine and stick lollipop sticks around it.
Imagine......!
Imagine that you are trying to explain to Nuala how you have a bath. Make it a dialogue: Nuala asks questions and you try to explain.
Imagine that you went back into time and lived in Nuala's house. Write a letter to your mother describing how you had your first bath.
