The ordinary people in France were very poor and the nobles were very, very rich. In 1789 the ordinary people could stand matters no longer. They rioted and set the prisoners of the Bastille free and then attacked the palace of Versailles. Eventually King Louis XV1, and the Queen Marie Antoinette were guillotined (their heads were chopped off) and Napoleon Bonaparte became the leader of the French people.
