The Armada was a fleet of 130 Spanish ships sent by Phillip of Spain to fight the English in the year 1587. The Armada was first sighted off the west coast of England on July 29 and was attacked by Lord Howard. He finally defeated it by sending burning ships into the middle of the Armada. The remaining ships were not able to sail back through the English channel but had to sail around Scotland & Ireland. Many were shipwrecked. Only 67 returned to Spain.
