Fact File

Roads: Would have been much fewer than nowadays and either very muddy or very dusty.

Carriages: Usually drawn by four horses matched in colour.

Horses: Since the roads were so bad most people rode to where they wanted to go.

Ships: Bad roads made people use ships. Grace O'Malley who lived at the same time as Grace Barry of Drumshee, went to Dublin and to London by ship.
