Celtic stone crosses were always made with a rounded circle at the top. They were often used as boundary marks - almost like fence for the land around the Abbey or Monastery. The Celtic stone crosses were also used to teach people bible stories as very few could read and write. Many stone crosses have the storiy of 'Daniel in the Lion's Den' on them.
