Pens:
Made from feathers or quills.
Large letters were written with a swan's feather and very tiny letters with a feather from a sparrow or even a wren. Most letters were written with a goose feather.
Inks:
Very colourful inks were made from berries and plants or by grinding  or precious stones: lapis lazuli(blue), malachite (green) into powder and mixing it with beaten white of egg or honey.

Red Ink: Ask your parent to cook raspberries in the microwave oven. When powdery mix with honey or white of egg.
Black Ink:
Mix soot with honey.
Purple Ink:
Blackberries(as raspberries)
