Message: | About the bit with the Gran: It wasn't really supposed to be much of the story, it was just so that she could find out from the nurse that she was improving. I didn't really mean for it to come over as it did. I may re-write that bit later. It was supposed to just be a short way to find a resolution to the problem, but I will try.

Message: | Thank you, Milly. I like Harry, also. And the interesting thing is that he was a true person. I do feel very strongly that he was the great love in Jane's life. Phoebe: A good opening - but good openings are easier than good endings. Why don't you write an ending? When you have done that, make a list of all the things that have to happen before that ending can be achieved. Then sort of tease your reader by just letting things out very gradually. The best ending I ever read in a book (about a girl who was mute because of something terrible that had happened to her) was: 'I have so much to tell you.'

Message: | Hey Cora, i was thinking, you should do a monthly thing, where you give a topic to write about e.g. sport or love and then we write stories and put them in the story club and you pick a winner, and the winner can pick the next topic? Please reply and tell me what you think? i know that i would definatly be up for it

Message: | Gabriel: Sorry to hear about your ankle - sounds painful. Still for a writer these things are very useful. Make a few notes about how you actually felt so that if, in a story, someone sprains their ankle you don't just reach for a cliché. No, I didn't get your letter. Did you send it to Macmillan?

Message: | No, David, I'm afraid that there was no bank robber or adventure - all of that came from out of my imagination. You can try that for your stories. Your ordinary, everyday life can be the background and then something really exciting can form the centre of your story. My advice is: MAKE UP THE ENDING BEFORE YOU START! I meant to say that a seaside called Ballycotton, quite near to you, is my favourite place in the world. Sixty years ago I spent all of my summer holidays there in a house just across the road from the Bayview Hotel.
