Message:The winning entry will be the one that combines a good and exciting story with a feeling that it could really have taken place in a school nowadays. I will be especially looking for someone who can manage dialogue (conversations) in a way that lets me feel I am listening to a gang of ordinary kids talking among themselves. It's probably best to write it on your computer, spellcheck it and then read it aloud to see what it sounds like. When you are satisfied, copy it and go to the Story Club and paste it in. Don' forget your age, school, and mark it 'For the Competition'. The prize is fame and a signed copy of one of my books. Mention which book you would like to own.

Message:Jessie & Nicole: The competition is for a story. The only rules are that it must be set in the year 2005 and it must be about a school (imaginary or real) in Ireland.

Message:Patricia: yes, thanks, I'd love some ideas for a new story for next week.

Denise: Your story was great - I found it very interesting and it was just the sort of thing I was looking for, but unfortunately it's really only the beginning of a story. Can you put a middle and an end on it and send me the whole thing? You've plenty of time as the competition won't finish until the end of January.

Message:Thanks for putting mine and Megan's story on the Story Board.
I'll probably have the story that I did on Microsoft Word sent to you soon but it probably won't be on Friday or the weekend because I'll be in Dublin.
Megan is going to send you more stories about Tuppence when she gets the time.

Message:I thought the ending of the story 'The Great Adventure' did not match up with the rest of it. I don't think it can just have been Sarah's dream. That leaves the reader quite disappointed after all the magical and imaginative episodes with the pink crocodile - it would be like ending Harry Potter by saying it was just a dream. Perhaps you could think of another ending. If no one can think of a good ending, I'll try to finish it off on Friday so that we have a new story by next weekend.
Patricia: That's great. Send it to me whenever you are ready.
Denise: I look forward to reading your story. I'm sure you will do it very well.

Message:Happy New Year everyone!
Sonia: I'm thinking of writing a sequel to 'Famine Secret'. Have you any ideas?
Claire: There may be two more Drumshee books in the spring. I have written them, but the publisher may not be able to have them in the shops until the summer.
Megan: Nice to hear from you. Your story is the first story on the Story Board for 2005. I'd like lots more stories now as I have some more room in the Story Club slot. They can be about anything, but if they are for the school story competition then mark it on the top of the story - and say which one of my books you would like as a prize.

Message:Alannah: Yes, I think 'The Great Adventure' is nearing its end now. It's been a lovely story and I hope it has a lovely end.
You should probably get whoever owns the laptop to show you how to transfer your story from the floppy disk onto the laptop, as machines are all different. Once it's there, just go into 'edit', click on 'select all' then click on 'copy' and then go to the Story Club and paste your story into it.
