| Message: | Bridget: Yes, 'Nuala & her Secret Wolf' was my first book. I wrote it and then wondered about it, took it down to a little school near my farm and a girl called Edel read it in one night and came back next day and said that she loved it. I tried a publisher and was so thrilled when they published it. That was Drumshee 1 and now Drumshee 17, 'A Life for a Life', has been published. How is your weather over in Idaho? I keep hoping for some snow around Christmas to please my small grandson, but we usually have a green Christmas. | |

| Message: | Dear Kelly, thanks for your message. I don't usually get ideas for stories from other people - they have to come out of my own head. I think my inspiration for my first book came from trying to picture a girl who might have lived on my farm two thousand years ago. | |

| Message: | Hi Cora I got a book token from my godmother and I went into Limerick to buy Gorgous because all my friends tell me its great but I could'nt get it. Easons diddn't even have any of the Drumshee Chronicles either tho they had loads of your Drumshee Timeline but I have got all of them. I was sooooo disapointed that I had to buy something else. I bought the Princess Dairies but my friend says that its not as good as Gorgous. | |

| Message: | Summer: Summer: I understand what you are saying about your theme being universal, but if you want to sell your novel you should give it a strong sense of place. This is what would interest your readers and what would make your novel different to many thousands of others with similar themes. | |

| Message: | Patricia: I think that what is wrong with it is the first entry. That sounds rather boring. I think you should start with the day before and really describe your worries and your hopes for secondary school and also describe what your primary school was like. Try to grab your readers' attention. As you get into your stride it becomes really, really good. I found it so interesting. Your style of writing is so straight-forward and honest. It's you, rather than an imitation Jacqueline Wilson. | |

| Message: | Karen: I think that your story is going very well. What I would do now, if I were you, would be to imagine this other world - think of the details that would make different to our world - perhaps colours are different, buildings - how do they get around in their world and of course, most important of all, what is the threat to the netherworld which requires a champion. Just spend a little while thinking about this and thinking how the problem is going to be solved and then just go on writing it. It's great! Alannah: I've put your next chapter onto your story. | |

| Message: | Claire: That was interesting - that is just the way that I learn. Something has to have a personal connection for me to memorise it. I used to find geography boring, though I loved history, but that was because I never personalised geography and didn't think of the people who lived in those countries and states that I was trying to memorise. Patricia: Don't worry. It's quite natural for that to happen. I think the best way to tell the story is to imagine that you have a gang listening to you and you are trying to grab their attention and then to keep hold of it. If it would help, you could send what you've done to the Story Club and I wouldn't put it on the board or anything, but I could send you advice. Don't give up: you have talent. | |

Now I'm back at the drawing board and I don't know what to do. I know my ending its about the christmas exams and I will contiune it when the year progresses. | |
