| Message: | I hate to say this but poor Jenny (then Lady Williams) was killed in a road accident a few years after her marriage to Thomas. She was driving a small gig, called a whiskey, on the road in the Isle of Wight and the horse bolted. Jenny was thrown to the ground and died some hours later. I get tears in my eyes whenever I think of it, but I hope she had a lovely few years with Thomas - they must have been so much in love for him to propose and she to accept after only knowing each other for three weeks. | |

Phoebe: A good opening - but good openings are easier than good endings. Why don't you write an ending? When you have done that, make a list of all the things that have to happen before that ending can be achieved. Then sort of tease your reader by just letting things out very gradually. The best ending I ever read in a book (about a girl who was mute because of something terrible that had happened to her) was: 'I have so much to tell you.' | |
