Message:Aoife & Bridget: Nice to hear from you. I must say, that I would not be too keen on rats. Is it safe? I suppose since it's a pet, it wouldn't be the health hazard that ordinary rats can be.

Nicole: Thanks for your contributions to the story.

Message:Hi Cora and Claire:
My little sister, with contributions from the rest of us, got a baby rat today and named it Pebbles. I didn't really want a rat, but now that I've held her she just seems so adorable! Sorry if it seems like a weird message, but I just thought I'd tell you.

Message:Hi Bridget:
The way it goes over here in Ireland is National, or Primary School until sixth class (that's junior infants, senior infants, and then right up from first to sixth). After that comes secondary (First Year - up to Sixth Year) and we have Junior Cert. at fifteen, then transition (but I'm going to skip that as I think it's a waste of time) and then Leaving Cert. and that's a two year course. You can do any number of subjects in that, but points only come from your best six subjects. I need to get about 590 points out of six hundred so you can see why I'm working really hard, even though I am only a second year student.

Message:Bridget: That's very interesting about the American educational system.
By the way, I've put your chapter seventeen on the Story Board. We must gather them all together, now, so that people who are new to the Story Club can read the whole book.

Message:Hi Claire:
Our grade system is probably a lot like yours, just with different names for the tests. Up until about eighth grade (for you it would be eighth class, I think) everyone has to take SATS twice a year that show how much you've learned. We have Elementary Schools, Junior Highs, High Schools, and College. College and Graduate School are optional.
Our weather is pretty warm, but we manage to keep our house pretty cool without air conditioning.
My favorite subjects are Literature, History, Grammar, and Life Science. I'm okay at Math, but I don't really like it. Good luck becoming I doctor!

Message:Paula: A story doesn't have to be wonderful to send it to me. In fact, if it were perfect, then there would be no point.
If, however, that there are some bits where you think you might need a bit of help, then you might find it useful to send it to me. If you like, I'll just read it and reply and not put it on the Story Club Board until you are satisfied with it.

Message:Sarah: No, I'm not at the moment as I am occupied with my books for adults. However, I do have another Drumshee Chronicles book written. It is about the time, after the treaty of Limerick, when the priests were banned from Ireland, but they often worked secretly. The name of it is WHO BETRAYED HIM?
Bridget: It is about 59 degrees Fahrenheit here today and it is pouring rain! I suppose you are having a lovely time swimming in the hot weather in America.

By the way, Bridget, what are your favourite subjects? Mine are maths, physics, chemistry and I love history from the Drumshee books, but I don't like it in school so much.

Message:Hi Bridget: We go back to school on the fifth of September. I can't wait. I'm quite bored with the summer holidays now and I do enjoy school. It was fun working in the shop belonging to my aunt in the beginning but I wasn't too keen on it after a while. Perhaps next summer I could volunteer to help in a hospital. I'm still determined to be a doctor if I can get the points.
Tell me all about your grade system. I'm dying to know everything about America. Do you have to pass an exam if you are home schooled or do you just choose?

Message:Hi Claire:
Yes, I still come on here, it's just that I 've been busy with swim team and everything else. It's about eighty to ninety degrees Farenheit here. Is it fifty degrees Celsius or Farenehit in Ireland? Fifty degrees seems really cold for summer.
When do you start school? I've been doing school over the summer because I want to get ahead a grade. Officially, though, I start on the twenty-fifth.

Message:Hi cora
Summer feels as if its nearly over. It's pouring rain today down here in Cork. What's the weather like over in America, Bridget, if you still come here? I wonder is it still about a 100 degrees. It's something in the fifties here.
His Sarah: Where are you from? I've added something to your bit of the story.

An Marie: Aloe Vera is good for burns, as well. The best thing of all is to put it on straight after being out in the sun but before you start to feel the burn.
The best thing of all is not to get burned - either stay out of the sun or wear a sunblock.

However, you are not correct, I think, about the O'Briens. My understanding is that, as so often happened, they were on both sides.
