Message: | Katy: The whole thing about a Halloween story is the building up of the atmosphere. The weather is very important - stormy with the moon sailing in and out of the clouds, the trees lashing and twisting - and then the house itself - where is it? Out in the country? On a street full of derelict houses? Build the story up to a high point - don't finish with - 'it was all a dream' or something like that, it spoils the story. Make it a real ghost story and as creepy as possible. Send a plan to me by the Story Board (4 parts) so that I can see what you have in mind and then I can advise you better.

Message: | Sarah: No, I find it quite easy, but I do make sure to think about a story for quite a while before I write it and then I plan it. Katy: If you want any advice for your Halloween story, don't hesitate to ask. The big thing is to describe a scene so that your reader feels they are there. For instance, don't just say it was nighttime - say something like 'it was a dark night, the moon kept disappearing behing the clouds', or 'it was bright clear night with stars pricking the blackness of the sky'. If you are talking about being scared, just shut your eyes and imagine being scared. What is your heart doing? What do your hands feel like? What about your breath?

Message: | No, I didn't make it up, Aoife, but I think that if it were not for the dog's reaction - her growls, hair standing on end and howling like a wolf - I might just think that I had imagined it. It all seemed to last just for a second.
