Message:Cora: In Summer you told me to try O'Brien Press in Dublin so I think I will try there first. The guide I found basically just gives you a sketch plan of what to write in each paragraph, its still basically me! I feel a little foolish saying I'm fourteen, it's making me think that they'll just think I'm some kid writing in to try and get something published, that's really not the impression I'm trying to give.

Message:Sarah: Only sometimes, but not in the middle of winter, usually.

Kristine: Who are you thinking of approaching?
That's very enterprising of you to get a query letter from the Internet - though I'd be inclined to be yourself and write your own letter - your English is better than most adults!

Message:Cora: I've been thinking about it a lot over the past few months, and I might as well give it a shot. I have a query letter half-written and am pretty clueless as to what to say, but I've found an online guide that seems to be good.

Message:Kristine: Yes, I do think it's worth it, but I also know that you have to be very prepared for disappointment. The chances of it being accepted are probably almost like winning a lottery prize, but yes, I do think it has a chance and that if you don't do it you will always wonder whether you should have. Certainly, the book is long enough and the quality is better than a lot of published stuff, and your age would give it novelty value. Think about it!

Ursula: Off the top of my head, I would start afresh, if I were you. I think it would be very interesting to give an insght into what the first year at university is like - all the ups and downs.

Message:Cora: I don't know why, but I've been thinking about the stuff you said over the summer about "The Apprentice's Right" and was wondering whether you still thought I could do something with it, publishing-wise. For lack of a better term, I chickened out the last time, and I regret it now. Do you still think I could do something with it?

Message:Hi Cora
Ursula Butler here, I wrote a few stories years ago on this very site, I really loved it , writing and hearing your feedback. I started college in UL last year but didnt like my course so started all over again this year in LIT, social care. But now I am settled down , I want to write again so first port of call is to talk to you, I need your advice, I read over 2 years of Mayhem and can see a lot I could improve on there but do you think I should start fresh first?
Hopefully you won't mind replying
From Ursula

Message:Sorry for confusing you - I just assumed that was the way that everyone did their stories - you just write it in 'Word', check it over, then go to the 'edit' menu (in Word), 'select all', then press 'copy' still in the 'edit' menu and then click on the blank space in the Story Club and press 'paste' in the Story Club Edit menu.

Otherwise, just type straight into the Story Club space as, I presume, you do normally.
Anyway, just divide it into chapters and then send me the result.

Message:Well, Aoibheann, you certainly have loads of ideas in that story synopsis that you sent!

Now, let's take the next step. Open up a Word document on your computer, then click on the numbering bullets (or else you can write the numbers yourself) and divide the stories into chapters. Send me this in the same way - I have to go out now but I'll reply as soon as I can.

Sophie & Meabh: I think I did sign some spares at Ennis Bookshop if you want to have a look.
As for questions, well, why don't you ask me them now.

Name: Cora Harrison
Message:Aoibheann: Don't worry about it - I know you have lots of spare time activities - (but don't bother sending just a few lines - it's quite fiddly for me to update the story and it just isn't worth it unless something new is added.)

Kristine: Junior Cert must come first. Hope you get top in all of Ireland for English!

Sarah: Sometimes it's easy - when things are going well and ideas are flooding into your mind, but sometimes it's hard and only sheer, dogged persistance will keep an author going.
