Message:Aoibheann: It hasn't come yet - but that seems to be the way with the Story Club these days - there is usually a bit of delay somewhere out in space!
I wrote the first Drumshee book 1997 and the seventeenth in, I think, about 2003
Riona: Which book are you talking about?
If you send me some of your writing or your ideas, I'll try to help. Send it through the Story Club - I won't put it on the board unless you are happy with it.

Message:Sarah Patton: I got both sometime in the middle of the night!
I think, having read your first paragraph, that I would be inclined to bring in a break in their friendship. It almost sounds too good to be true the way you describe it.
You could open the next section of the story with the words - 'But then everything changed...
I'm not sure about the cancer business. It's a good rule in writing not to describe anything that you haven't experienced yourself.
Unless you've actually been through that sort of thing it will not ring true.
On the other hand, every teenager has been through the ups and downs of friendship - the romance interests beginning to interfere in all-girl partnerships etc.
Think about it and get back to me.

Message:Cora, for English we have to write a ashort story, I have started the introduction. I am not very good at writing stories and I don't know how to build the tension up between the Conclusion and the ending.I have left the start of it on the story board, please tell me what you think.I know what I want to happen but I don't know how to approach this kind of happening.
I would like the character Jemma to find out she has cancer and her friend the speaker in the story, tries to comfort her but Jemma grows weaker and weaker and dies but I don't want it to be too dramatic. An say the last word Jemma says are (the title of the story) "you are a friend for life)

Message:Aoibheann: No, I don't usually write during the summer. I give myself those months off. Also I usually give myself December off and a few weeks at Easter.
I hope you like 'millennium' - that is about a dog I had quite a long time ago, called Mara (although in the book I call her Heidi).
I can see why you call Lucky a puppy - when my dog, Oscar, was only seven months old he was as tall as the kitchen table!
Sarah: I have had published about 26/27 (can't remember) books for children and two for adults. My third for adults will be in the shops in May.

Do you write over the summer or do you just relax and go on holiday?

Message:Cora: Thanks. From what you told us at the Gaelscoil Wolf sounded like one brave dog. I bet he was.
I have a dog too, His name is lucky. He is very cute, but mostly funny! he's a small jack russel puppy. he is about 3 now, we've had him since he was 1.

Message:Aoibheann: Well done. I'm glad that you were well enough to take part.

I'm afraid that I don't have Wolf any more. He was suffering from an incurable illness and was in a lot of pain so I had to have him put to sleep a few years ago.
I have another dog now, Oscar. Wolf's half-brother is his grandfather.

Message:Sarah Patton: My favourite of the Drumshee books is 'Treachery at Midnight' but I do like the famine one, also - which is your favourite character, Deirdre or Fiona?
Sarah: It's hard to say how is my favourite author as I read such a lot that it is always changing. Who is yours?
Kristine: We have a lot in common - I am just the same. I was asking my agent the other day whether I should send a detailed plan of the books in a new series which I am hoping to get accepted. His reply was: 'don't bother, both you and I know that there will be loads of changes before the book is actually completed to your satisfaction.
Aoibheann: I'm looking forward to the last chapter - remember, don't rush and make it the best one in the book!
