Message:I don't think that I would have the time at the moment - I have one children's book, one 'young adult' book and one book for adults - all on the go at the moment.

Why don't you give it a go - perhaps start off with a family where they are very poor and the eldest daughter volunteers to go to America to earn money and send it back to her family. You could write it as a diary if you liked. You'll find the right dates for the days of the Titanic's voyage in my book. I looked them up - and all the factual details of the ship have been carefully researched.

Message:Cora: I love Titanic. Have you thought of doing a story in diary version of a maid or posh merchants daughter or son and they go on the titanic?

Message:Sarah Patton: I agree with you - the bits of history that I remember the best are those that are connected with a story. I myself think that historical novels are best way of learning history. The worst way is trying to learn dates and things like that off by heart.

Message:It sounds really good I liked the ides of the ball in the drumshee book, i think it was called the dark days.I really enjoyed readind the Drumshee books like , the titanic, the famine all them books. I don't enjoy History in school, I much prefer reading stories based on that time but with a twist.

'I Was Jane Austen's Best Friend' is finished - it's about 70,000 words - but my editor and I are still talking about it and changing bits. The trouble is that I have to be true to the historical period - I am writing about someone who lived more than two hundred years ago - and at the same time make it interesting to fourteen/fifteen-year-olds nowadays.
It was such a different world then - though I think the balls were very nice and I like the dresses!

And your experience with drama will help. Look how each play has a beginning and a middle and a clever ending.

Message:Dear Aoibheann,
If I were you, I would leave 'Maids' and write it off to experience. It's not that easy to write a historical story - you have to know the period very well.
Where you excel is in modern stories - there was loads of good stuff in 'Rainbow' - and it was a great idea to write about a bully rather than a person who is being bullied - it made it much more original.
What about a writing a sporty story? There are not many of them for girls, but you play sport, don't you and that could be good. Of course, it has to have a good story line - the sport is just the background.
Have a think about it - don't worry about abandoning 'Maids' - you did your best.

Sarah Fitgerald: I hope you get a chance to read 'Gorgeous'.
Sarah: Your story is on the Story Club board for about a week now - didn't you look? And there's a message on the message board.

Message:Cora: Instead of starting a new story alltogether, I was wondering, mabye could I revise and change 'Maids Of All Work'? A different time setting mabye, change the storyline, the characters, the main veiw, the story itself? Instead of leaving it un-finshed, I would change it into something different.

Message:OMG it's like, my first time coming onto your site in about 4 years! Yes, that's what secondary school does with your free time...
I'm after going into the Story Club for old time's sake & reading back over all the crappy stories I wrote when I was, what, 10? :D
Nah, they weren't THAT crappy. The 11-year-old me writing those stories really impressed the now 15-year-old me...
ANYHOO! Writing a new story at the mo! Haven't worked out which way it's going to go yet but it's gonna be pretty cool... Perhaps I might add the first chapter in a while & see what you think?
