Message:It's so difficult to know - I don't want to sound discouraging but it's very hard to get in on publishing. I think I had the luck to hit on a fairly original subject first - the Drumshee books telling the story of Ireland through the ages and all based in one obscure spot. Once one is published everything becomes easier.
Still, don't give up. You're about sixty-three years younger than I so you have plenty of time.

Message:Aww! I would love a little puppy! We just have one MASSIVE sheepdog named Lucky, who keeps us very busy!
No worries about the time limit, I don't mean to sound demanding, I'm just curious about what you think...
Even rereading my old draft, I can't decide if this style is better or not, but I guess I'll see when it's finished!

Message:Give me until March 31, Conor. I have to submit by that date a book which has a good contract already signed. Life is terribly hectic at the moment what with one thing and another - and I have been mad enough to get a new German shepherd - a puppy named Storm, who is not yet three months old and is quite a handful!
It's hard fitting in my schedule of two thousand words a day as well as amusing and feeding that little handful!

Message:Thank, Molly. Yes, I like that book, too. I was so pleased to write about Daisy and Poppy - and how everything worked out for them.

Yes, I'd love to write a third book, and this time it has to be about Rose!

Message:It's lovely to hear from you, Rachel. Which school in County Clare was it?

Well, I think I have now had 48 books published altogether, so I suppose that my goal must be 50. And who knows after that!

However, I was born in 1939 so you can guess that I am getting a bit on the old side to be working as hard as I worked during the last five or six years, so perhaps 50 will be my limit.

So what are you doing with yourself, these days?

Message:William: Would you try Tara Book Company in Kilcolgan, County Galway. They have a lot of these out-of-print books and you may be lucky.
Hope you may find it - it was a shame that Wolfhound went out-of-business, as I know from the library receipts that lots of kids still enjoy these Drumshee books and that many adults remember learning Irish history from them.

Message:Sorry, Conor, I only just saw this message just now - and by accident - something went wrong with my notifying system - lots of spam.

Quite frankly I think that you are gifted, but the market is very difficult and unless your name is known there is a very hard trail ahead of you. I would keep writing and somehow things eventually must pan out.

However, the Kindle route is completely free - you download your book - no free copies for author - but then it's out on the market place and someone might take a fancy to it.

I hate to think that, with your talent, you are feeling discouraged, but it is a long, hard road.

Message:I would self-publish, but I don't really have the resources, and if it doesn't pan out, it's just been a waste of time....
Does it cost money to self-publish?
And on another note, I'm really not sure if I should wait to try publish, or whether I'm good enough to publish now? What do you think?

Message:I remember you extremely well, Conor, and am delighted to hear that you are still writing.

Have you ever thought of being a publisher as well? Very easy to do on Amazon Kindle - a lot of people are going down that route and, in fact, an editor from Macmillan, one of my own publishers, went talent spotting through Kindle books and someone (self-published) ended up with a NINE (nine!) book deal from Pan Macmillan. Amazing!
The trouble is that agents are looking for such complex things - not just how you write, but how original your subject matter is, who you are etc.
It's a tough world and luck comes into it as hugely as talent.

Message:Hi, Cora, I don't know if you remember me, but it's been a couple of months since I've written here.
I've started writing the second draft of my book and I'm going to submit it to the story club to see what you think. I really feel as if my writing style has developed over the year.

Message:Thank you, Charlotte. I hope you may go on to read 'Debutantes in Love' which is the continuation of the story of the sisters, but which deals more with Poppy and Daisy - and their love lives.

Message:Hello Cora, I am currently reading your book Debutantes. It is really good and such an interesting read! I also thought that it was quite like the programme Downton Abbey, because they are getting presented as well. I just wanted to say that you must have so much talent to create such wonderful stories as these. :)
