Message: | Krisitne: Sorry the message board isn't working for you - but anyway, that message was probably too long to have fitted. That's really fascinatiing. That took O'Brien a really long time to turn you down. I bet they seriously considered it. What about having a go with the present story? I do think that Cecil has to come to life in the reader's mind a bit earlier, though. Nothing too obvious - don't give the game away - but he has to be a character. I read some Eva Ibbotson(?) and you are much better! And very much better than the vampire lady!

Message: | Aoibheann: I'm not sure that it is necessary to put the chapters together - a chapter can be quite short - it is dictated by a switch of subject matter or a change in tone, rather than a set length. What you do need to do, I think, is to find a better beginning. That seems such a childish question about dividing sweets - rather like something you would ask an infant, that I don't think it fits with the rest of the story- especially as the girl is supposed to be a 'nerd'. How old is she supposed to be?

Message: | Danielle: the best way to write an actual story is to think of a main character - girl, boy, or even animal - then give that main character a problem to be solved or a goal to be achieved. After this, think out a good ending and then make a start on your story. Rachel: Yes, I remember coming to your school. Which book do you like best? Sarah Patton: I love the Highlands of Scotland and I love the islands, also. We went there a few years ago about this time of the year and had a great time.

Message: | Sarah Patton: That sounds great and I think that is a wonderful way of sorting out historical periods - you will be able to remember the way you went and so you will remember that, for example, bronze age comes before iron age etc. I must have a look at that place sometime. Danielle: I did get your bext bit of the story but I don't think that it will work - you see nowadays you can't just pick up a child on the street and adopt them. you have to go to an adoption agency and usually you have to wait about a year while they see whether you are a suitable person and have a suitable home. Then you get to look through photos and read about the children who are on offer for adoption and then, perhaps, you get to meet some.
