Stage 3: You need to explain why Sarah isn't present at the announcement. Perhaps she has an accident, jumps into a river to save a drowning puppy, twists an ankle in a race - something like that.
Stage 4: I think it might be best if Sarah got a prize as well when the judges found out why she was not able to attend the announcement

Message:Katherine:

I didn't put on your story because I think you have a good idea here and it's worth exploring properly. Try it like this.
Stage 1: The competion is announced by the teacher. The two friends are excited. they discuss writing a story and make plans for winning.
Stage 2: This should be about the writing of the story. Do it from both girls' point of view. End this stage with them handing in their stories (holding their thumbs for luck, or something).

Message:I love a reader like you - someone who desperately wants to know more. Prepare for a surprise at the beginning of book 2!

I'm doing the first edit of book 2 just now - then there will be another edit in a month or two - sometimes four or five edits - and then other people will look at it and try to sell it to other countries. At the moment, book one has been sold to America and to Brazil where it is being translated into Portuguese.

I have two questions. The first is (if you don't mind saying) how old are you? I ask this as loads of adults are reading it as well as teenagers.
The second question is what did you think of the illustrations? Did you like them? Did you think they added to the book?
