Would you welcome any constructive advice, Kristine? Speaking for myself, praise is great, but advice is more useful - evn if you don't take it! | |

| Message: | Kristine: If I get a minute, I'll read it through from start to finish - so far it's all been in chapters and I'd like to get an overall impression. It may not be for a while. I'm in the middle of a Victorian murder mystery for ten-year-olds and I'm frantically busy. Bridget: I remember a time when there were two Bridgets coming on the website - one from Ireland and one from US. Are you one of these? | |

| Message: | Kistine: I think this story is very, very worth revising - 36,000 words is a bit short so you have loads of scope. My YA book 'I Was Jane Austen's Best Friend' has ended up at 80,000 though it started off as less than half of that. I lLOVED 'Gone with the Wind' when I was about your age and read it loads of times since then. I'm not a huge fan of Emily Bronte, but she's definitely got something - it's what would be called Gothic horror nowadays, I suppose. I prefer Charlotte Bronte - I loved 'Jane Eyre'. Bridget: There were a few bugs in this message board etc. system. Pete discovered and remedied them this summer. I couldn't get on my self for a week! | |

| Message: | Cora: I like revising stories, but it takes a lot of time. Between school and everything, it can take me about a year to start and finish a story. I think (and this is a rough estimate) that it's about 36,385 words long. I've never read Wuthering Heights. There's a copy of it in my house though, and I'm not reading anything else, so I might as well give it a go. I recently read the book of "Gone With the Wind" - I love the film, and I thought the book was just amazing. | |

| Message: | Kristine: I love most things about being a writer but I really hate revising - though some writers that I know say that they love it! Like it, love it or hate it, it has to be done and it usually improves the book. Above all, though, you must not lose the claustrophobic atmosphere - that's one of the things that makes this book great. (how many words is it, by the way?) I was in Hughes & Hughes the other day and was amused to see 'Wuthering Heights' by Emily Bronte with a cover almost identical to Stephanie Meyer's books. Apparently it is Edward and Bella's favourite book and now this hundred and fifty year-old classic is being marketed for the young. Have you read it by the way? I think you would like it | |

| Message: | the thing is that there is also loads and loads of really exciting, excellently-written stuff. But I think I would be happier if it were a bit more rooted in the place. There was nothing about Galway in it - nothing about school or any sort of normal teenage life - but then perhaps that claustrophic atmosphere is what makes it so different. I just don't know. I'd leave it for a week and then go back and read it through. | |

| Message: | Tara: That sounds fun. When my children were young - ages ago - we had a camper van and had holidays in Mayo. We camped by beach called Streedagh and as all our clothes were wet, on the first fine day we built a huge bonfire of drftwood in order to dry them. | |
