Message: | Was it the 'Montgomery Murder' that you got, Megan? I do hope that you like it. In a way, it's interesting to compare the life of Alfie to the life of the four children in my book 'The Famine'. Alfie would have been about the same age.

Message: | Thanks, Gareth, that was a very thoughtful and interesting email. In fact, you have picked up something which I found, when doing my research, was the most astonishing part of the story of Ireland in those days - the fact that, despite all the people dying of hunger in their houses and on the roads, trading went on briskly in places like Ennis market. I got this information from a hundred-and-fifty-year-old copy of the Clare Champion (our local newspaper). Researching for a historical novel is immensely time-consuming, but also immensely interesting.

Message: | The class of P6 & 7 are only after finishing your book called Famine Secret at Drumshee. I thought the book was outstanding, I would give it a 10/10, It was very realistic the way that you told us that Deirdre and Fiona went to Ennis Market and they sold a bit of lace to the man in the pub. Your book showed us about that the population of Ireland was at risk and the Irish familie's and villagers could not cope without money for rent, And if they did not pay there houses would be burnt down. I would like to read Titanic Voyage from Drumshee because all of my friends say it is supposed to be good. My Granny would like reading this book because she likes reading about the famine and Irish history. :)

Message: | Kaytlann: That does sound frustrating. I'd love to see one of your stories. Try planning a clever ending before you start a story and that would get around the difficulty of finishing a story if that is what prevents you from keeping them. Hope you enjoy I Was Jane Austen's Best Friend.

Message: | Ruairi & Dylan: Yes, that would have been rather nice, but the necklace goes through all of the books - it was lost in the first book, found again in the third book, 'Castle at Drumshee' then placed back again when Grace had a vision of someone who was desperate - someone who really would need that necklace more than she did...

Message: | Your book The Famine Secret from Drumshee was very good and interesting to see how many people actually died during the famine. It was very sad when there mum and dad died. The ending was unexpecting because we all thought it was going to be a stash of food in the storeroom.

Message: | Many thanks for the messages - Fiona is my favourite, also, Naomi. You're probably right about Titanic being more exciting, Emma, but the Famine was such an important episode in the history of Ireland that it was a book I did really want to write. I wonder whether you might be interested in reading a book about London, Megan. My latest book, The Montgomery Murder is going very well and is on the shortlist for five different 'Children's Book of the Year' awards in the UK. Which is your favourite character out of both books, Caitai?

Message: | Anastasia: Yes, I think that Jane is more my kind of girl, also, but when I was drawing the character of Jenny I wanted to make her a contrast to Jane. I got my first book published after I retired from teaching, though now I wish that I had tried at an earlier stage because I do enjoy writing. It's best not to think about publication until you get over your problem about finishing stories (which lots of people have). The next time you start to write a story try this. Invent a character ( a really interesting character) and give her (or him) a problem to solve - a quite serious problem. In the solving of the problem you will find the ending for your story. Try it and see if it works for you.

Im hoping to be able to write a couple of books one day and be able to sell them as well, (ive started many but i never finish them for some reason), i was wondering when you published your first book? & was it hard, or did it take long to get it published? any advice for me? thanks!

Message: | Alison: I think that you might do this project better if you had more interesting questions. Go to 'biography' on the top line of this website and read that. It answers most of these questions - except the one about which book is my favourite and I am never able to decide on that one, myself.
